The Utica City School District's newest budget proposal has been released.

The 2014-2015 budget of almost $146 million is a 5% increase or $7 million from last year's budget.

Superintendent Bruce Karam said the increase will mean around 95 layoffs in the district, with 51 of those laid off being teachers.

Karam said no programs in schools were cut but the lack of state aid hurts the district.

If the budget is passed later this year, Karam added that residents would only see a 1.25% tax increase.
