Utica, NY - The Utica Common Council held a Special Meeting in Caucus chambers last night, they heard from Utica Fire Chief Russell Brooks in regard to staffing.

The Chief continues to pitch his plan to handle the reductions. Right now, the Fire department expects to loose 17, with more possible.

The Council also voted to let the people of Utica decide if they should receive benefits next year.
Council President Bill Moorehouse explains, "We cannot change benefits during our term, up or down, so as council people we can change benefits for the next term, but to have it done for next year it has to go to referendum".

The public gets to vote on this referendum November 6th.
