Councilman Joe Marino will be asking the Utica Common Council to support the state legislature and encourage them to pass the regulatory reforms necessary to bring Uber to upstate New York.

Officials from the ride-sharing service say Uber would create 200 jobs in Utica in the first year alone.

Marino said "When we, as a City, are missing out on the benefits of hundreds of jobs, thousands of dollars in economic development revitalization and most importantly, we are missing out on giving our citizens an opportunity to improve the quality of transportation options and safety to reduce drunk driving and drunk driving fatalities, I feel it is necessary that we let our voices be heard.  We should speak loudly and often in telling our state officials, by way of official City legislation, that we support this growth in Utica.

Marino will introduce the resolution at the next Common Council meeting on December 16th.
