Now that winter storm Hercules has passed through Central New York, Utica Department of Public Works Commissioner Dave Short says even with limited manpower the DPW was able to handle the storm without incident.

Short says with storms that bring so much snow, crews wait to salt the roads until the brunt of the snow has fallen to avoid plowing it off the roadways, so motorists should only drive during heavy storms when absolutely necessary.

He added there is a possibility of an ice storm early next week and the public should again be patient while the DPW clears the roads.
