Members of the Utica Common Council were presented findings from the audit of the City of Utica's finances from the Bonadio Accounting Firm Wednesday night.

Utica's 4th Ward Councilman Joe Marino says the audit of 2013-2014 revealed the city has a $500,000 surplus because of underspending in a few departments, but just having the audit done on time is a big step forward.

Marino added that he is concerned the audit showed a few deficiencies in the Comptroller's office that have been brought up in past audits, but he said the council will now have a chance to speak with the city's department heads and work together to fix the problems and benefit Utica's taxpayers.
