An audit of Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri's third year in office shows an operating budget surplus of $345,000.

It's marks the third straight year the city has finished with a budget surplus.

Utica has surpluses of $931,000 and $1.5 million dollars in 2013 and 2014.

Mayor Palmieri said, “Having a surplus for the third consecutive year is certainly welcomed news.  In order to improve Utica’s finances we needed to be fiscally responsible and increase our fund balance.  Each of the past three fiscal years we’ve stayed within our budget, and while we had to make difficult decisions we are seeing positive changes.”

Comptroller Bill Morehouse says the audit clearly shows financial improvement and that the city is headed in the right direction
