Nearly $300,000 in federal funding is headed to the Utica Fire Department.

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand say the funding was awarded through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

The UFD will use the money to buy new self-contained breathing apparatus air packs for its firefighters.

The apparatus will replace equipment that is no longer compliant with National Fire Protection Association standards.

I thank Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand and for their tireless and effective advocacy for the City of Utica and the Utica Fire Department.  Securing funding for these SCBA units is tremendously helpful to the City and provides lifesaving resources to our Fire Fighters who risk their lives to keep our residents safe,” said Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri.
