Despite the snow and cold a group of Utica firefighters stood outside in traffic for a great cause Wednesday.

Members from Utica Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 32 bundled up and each grabbed a boot to get donations from travelers on Burrstone Road.

The popular fundraising effort garnered just under $7,000 for Muscular Dystrophy research. They raised $6,940 in just a few hours. That added to their totals collected over the Labor Day weekend.

Between Labor Day weekend and Thanksgiving Eve, the firefighters incredibly raised about $11,000 for MDA of Central New York.
