A Utica man has been arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person.

Utica Police say 25-year old Andrew Hillage signed his mother out of nursing home where she was being cared for and brought her home.

Police say his mother is disabled and unable to care for herself after suffering a stroke.

They say after starting a relationship with his girlfriend, Hillage allegedly began spending long times away from his mother and failed to properly care for her.

As a result of the negligent care the woman suffered skin breakdown and open wounds, which lead to infection to both her lower legs, a rash to her abdomen and hypothermia.

The 62 year old woman required hospitalization in the critical care unit of a local hospital.
