Utica, NY (WIBX) - Police are charging a Utica man with extortion for stealing an elderly woman's belongings and then attempting to sell them back to her.

Over a period spanning several months, 31-year old Omar Torres of Elizabeth Street allegedly entered the home of his 90-year old victim several times, stealing property and cash.

After the most recent incident he then called the victim and offered to "sell" her back her property. He used two children as carriers before he was arrested and taken into custody.

Utica Police are charging him with several misdemeanors and multiple felonies, including extortion and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
