Utica Man Charged In 2016 Murder Of Homeless Man

A Utica man has been arrested for the May 2016 murder of Lawrence "Larry" Edwards.

22-year old Raekwon Winston is charged with second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Edwards was found dead in a car in the rear of a home at 301 Rutger Street on May 7th, 2016.  Utica Police say he had been shot.

Edwards was known to frequent the areas around the Rescue Mission of Utica and Hope House and was homeless.

Winston was arraigned on the charges Friday morning in Oneida County Court.

The investigation was handled by investigators from the Utica Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and Criminal Investigation Division.
