Utica man charged with domestic violence, resisting arrest

Utica, NY (WIBX) -29 year old Nathaniel Sergio was arrested early Sunday morning  by the Oneida County Sheriff's Department and charged with several misdemeanors, including Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest and Domestic Violence. 

According to the Sheriff's Department, Deputy Mark Chrysler was on routine patrol around 1:30 AM, driving on Genesee Street. He came upon a parked car in the roadway. Stopping to check it out, Deputy Chrysler found the driver, 20 year old Maria Major and her boyfriend, Nathaniel Sergio.

Authorities say the 20 year old told Deputy Chrysler that Sergio punched her in the face twice while she was driving. Dazed and unable to see, she stopped the vehicle and fled, leaving it parked in the roadway.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Department also states that as Deputy Chrysler talked with Major, her boyfriend began stepping in the way, interfering with his investigation and that when the deputy tried to arrest Sergio, he resisted.  The two men wrestled for several minutes on the side of the roadway until Sergio was finally taken into custody, according to authorities.

Sergio was sent to the Utica City lockup on $2,000 police bail. The 20 year old victim, suffering from bruises and swelling, was treated at the scene.  She refused further medical treatment.
