Utica Man Charged with Leandra’s Law DWI, Almost Hitting a Sheriff’s Deputy Roadside
A Utica man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly almost hitting a sheriff's deputy who was stopped along the side of the road.
In a written release the Oneida County Sheriff's Office says deputies were stopped along State Route 13 in Verona Beach helping New York State Police with a man who was apparently suffering from mental illness when the driver of a 2004 Honda Odyssey drove past and almost hit one of the deputies.
The incident happened at approximately 10:34pm on Saturday, June 13, 2015.
The driver, Eh Wah, was pulled over. A six-year-old child was riding in the car with Wah. After a field sobriety test he was arrested and charged with a DWI in violation of Leandra's Law (in which driving drunk with a child under the age of 15 in a vehicle automatically results in a felony charge), endangering the welfare of a child, and failure to move over to another lane during a roadside assistance.
Wah was officially charged at the Verona Town Court and is being held at the Oneida County Jail on $10,000 bail.
