Utica, NY (WIBX) - An east Utica man is facing multiple domestic violence charges following an incident at a residence on Whitesboro Street. The suspect, 40-year-old James Brady allegedly argued with his girlfriend and threatened her with a knife, after she refused his demands to fight him.

The woman told police she feared for her children's safety, but when she put them in another room, Brady got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed a bed. Brady then became increasingly agitated and threatened to set the house on fire. The man did manage to set a blanket on fire, but the victim was able to distinguish it. Police say at one point, the suspect even held the victim and her children hostage for hours.

Brady of Deerfield Drive is charged with the following:

  • Arson 2nd- B felony
  • 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a child-misdemeanor
  • Criminal Possession of a weapon-misdemeanor
  • Criminal Mischief-misdemeanor
  • Menacing-misdemeanor
