Utica, NY (WIBX) - A Utica man is facing charges for allegedly cloning the credit card information of a customer at a local grocery store and making unauthorized purchases. The suspect, 22-year-old Eric Adu of Whitesboro Street was arrested and subsequently charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, 2nd Degree - Class D Felony
  • Falsifying Business Records, 1st Degree - Class E Felony

Officials say cloning is a new way for thieves to steal personal information by using scanning devices to copy a victim's credit card information. They say the process is relatively easy to do, and even included a video report from ABC News to show how it's done. You can find a link to that report right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji49T5KwMbM.
