Utica Man Facing Weapons Charges Following Traffic Stop

A Utica man is facing numerous charges after a traffic stop at the intersection of Whitesboro Street and Faas Avenue.

Utica Police say 30-year old Shamel Kornegay, who was a front seat passenger, fled from the vehicle on foot.

They say Kornegay struggled with officers who were trying to arrest him while repeatedly reaching into his waistband.

During the struggle Kornegay was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

He's charged with criminal possession of a weapon, harassment and resisting arrest.
