Syracuse, NY (WIBX) - The Central New York Civil Air Patrol has a new commander.

Newly appointed Lieutenant Colonel, John Jones, will oversee six squadrons located throughout the area, including Utica, Rome, Syracuse, Fulton and Watertown.

Previously, Jones served for a year as the group's Deputy Commander.

Jones, a Utica resident, has been a member of the Civil Air Patrol for 25 years and has commanded both the Utica and Syracuse squadrons, along with serving as group Inspector General and squadron test Control Officer.

The Central New York Group is one of nine commands in the Civil Air Patrol's New York Wing.
