New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is getting a local endorsement for his re-election bid.

Utica mayor Robert Palmieri is putting his support behind Schneiderman because of the success of the Attorney General's gun buyback program.

Gun buyback programs sponsored by Schneiderman have been held in Binghamton, Niagara Falls, Poughkeepsie and Rochester.

In Utica so far, 201 guns have been taken in as a result of the program.

"The Attorney General's efforts to assist the Mohawk Valley has been invaluable," Palmieri said. "His approach to combating gun violence through his gun buyback program right here in Utica resulted in more than 200 guns being removed from our streets. I am proud to support Eric Schneiderman for re-election as Attorney General and look forward to continuing our great partnership."
