Utica Mayor Palmieri Appointed To Law Enforcement Agency Council

Utica Mayor Rob Palmieri was appointed to the Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Council by governor Andrew Cuomo in July.

The Council adopts standards, sets policy and has exclusive authority to to grant accreditation to law enforcement agencies throughout New York State.

“I am honored to be appointed to the Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Council, and I thank Governor Cuomo and NYCOM Executive Director Peter Baynes for the opportunity to serve in this capacity," Palmieri said.

Palmieri helped Utica's Police Department earn accreditation in 2015, a feat that helped him earn the recommendation from Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Conference of Mayors(NYCOM).

It has been a major priority or Palmieri's administration to earn the accreditation for the UPD, as only 22% of Police Departments in New York State are accredited.

"Mayor Palmieri’s commitment and accomplishments as Mayor of the City of Utica make him the perfect candidate for this important position," said NYCOM Executive Director Peter Baynes. "Given that Utica’s police department recently received re-accreditation; Mayor Palmieri has first-hand experience and knowledge of the accreditation process that will go a long way toward strengthening the overall program. I am confident that he will be a tremendous asset to this Council."

The Accreditation Council works with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and is made up of 17 members appointed by the Governor.
