Utica Police Introduce LRAD [VIDEO]

The Utica Police Department has rolled out a new piece of equipment, the L-RAD

The Long Range Acoustic Device can send messages and warnings that can be heard from up to a quarter-mile away.

The LRAD can be used for crowd control or in hostage situations.

Sgt. Steven Hauck says he believes the UPD is the only police department outside of New York City to have an LRAD.

Hauck says Utica Police have also added new patrol rifles to their arsenal, which increases their firepower.
