The Utica Police Department are actively trying to negotiate with a woman at a residence on Taylor Ave. who they believe may have a weapon.

According to UPD Deputy Chief Ed Noonan, calls from concerned neighbors came in shortly before 9 a.m. this morning. The callers notified dispatchers that a woman on in a second floor apartment was throwing things and breaking windows.

Police responded and attempted to make contact with the woman. During the course of the interaction she made comments that led police to believe she was armed with a weapon. She barricaded herself in the apartment and police began negotiating with her to attempt to bring the situation under control and attempt to evaluate her mental well-being.

Shortly before noon, the incident was resolved. The woman was taken into custody by Utica Police and she is currently having her mental health evaluated.
