The Utica Police Department has three police officer positions open due to recent retirements.

The UPD is looking for experienced officers who have successfully completed a New York State Municipal Police Training Council basic training academy to transfer to Utica from another police agency.

The Utica Police Department says in addition to these three openings, they anticipate more in the near future.

Interested candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Must have New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services approved police officer status
  • Must have been previously hired off of a New York State Civil Service List and served full-time for at least one full year
  • Must have more than three years since graduation from Police Academy, or have training reimbursement waiver signed by their current agency
  • Have a CLEAN service record, and be able to pass rigorous psychological, medical and background checks.

Note: Under NYS Civil Service law the Utica Police Department is unable to accept lateral transfers from the following categories of police officers:

  • New York State Police
  • New York City Police Officers
  • Part-time police officers within New York State and
  • Police Officers outside of New York State.
