An arrest has been made in a murder case from 2014.

Utica Police have charged 32-year-old Jonathan Brown of Dewitt Street in Utica and 29-year-old Kent Burgess, currently in custody at Attica Prison on an unrelated charge, in connection with the death of Andre Oliver-Kenney.

Andre Lamar Oliver-Kenney, then 23 years old, was murdered at Two J's Bar in Utica, New York on January 18, 2014.  The case garnered much attention as the city's first homicide of 2014.

According to a written release from Utica Police:

"Today, the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force in New York City took a suspect into custody for the murder of Andre Oliver-Kenney. He was shot and killed outside Two J’s bar on January 18, 2014. The suspect was indicted by an Oneida County Grand Jury and was located at a relatives home in the Bronx. The U.S. Marshal’s Service transferred custody to members of the UPD and he was arraigned in Oneida County Court and is being held at Oneida County Jail. This arrest was the result of years of hard work by Investigator Nicholson and the cooperation of members of the public."

Police have not released additional details.  Burgess has been held at Attica since October of 2014 on a drug-related charge.
Brown is facing the following charges:
  • Murder in the Second Degree (Class A1 Felony)
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C Felony)

Burgess faces the following charge:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon (Class C Felony)
