Utica Police Make Arrest In December 2015 Murder

Utica Police have made an arrest in the December 2015 murder of Jamal Mathis.

19-year old Ricky Woods Jr. of Yorkville is charged with second-degree murder.

Mathis was found dead in the backyard of a home on the 1100 block of Leeds Street on December 19th, 2015.  He died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Woods is currently in the Oneida County Jail.

He's also facing charges of attempted murder and kidnapping following an incident in Utica in January.  Woods is one of four men accused of abducting a man at gunpoint.

The UPD's Major Crimes Unit worked closely with the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office throughout the homicide investigation.
