Utica, NY (WIBX) - Utica Police have taken another gun off the streets. According to Chief Mark Williams, two officers were responding to a "shots fired" call in the area of Arthur Street and Taylor Ave, when they stopped 25 year old Calvin Winston, a block away.

When officers attempted to stop Winston, Chief Williams says the man turned his body away from police and moved his hand towards his waistband; the officers then heard the sound of a metal object hitting the sidewalk. Police were able to retrieve a loaded 9mm handgun, that Winston was allegedly trying to dispose of under a row of hedges.

Winston was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a loaded weapon and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.
