Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Utica Public Library is announcing a contest for local writers. Contestants must submit their work by April 14th and include the words "Arthur Bowen Davies" and "Garnet" somewhere in their piece.

Library officials say Arthur Bowen Davies was a famous painter who was born in Utica in 1863 and this contest rule is to honor his memory and contribution to the Arts. And, the use of the word Garnet is to recognize the official Gem of New York State. Other contest rules include, keeping the entries to 350 words and submitting them to Max Grinnell at maxgrinnell@gmail.com by April 14th, 2011 at 11:59 pm.

Contest winners will be announced during the American Travel Writing: Past, Present, and Future Program on Saturday, April 23rd at 1:00 pm in the library. Officials say the contest and program are free to the public.
