The City of Utica Republican Committee has announced their lineup of candidates for the upcoming fall elections.

“Our goal was to not just come up with bodies to run for these elected offices;” said Chairman Joseph Hobika Jr., “but to find talented, energetic and qualified people who have the courage to stand up and challenge the political dysfunction we’ve witnessed over the last several years in Utica.”

Hobika announced that the city committee has endorsed “5 electable individuals who can react to changing times, complex issues and who are willing to make tough decisions at one of the most crucial times in our history.”

• Utica City Judge – Michael Cancilla

• At Large Common Council Seat – Howard Welch

• At Large Common Council Seat – Mark Williamson (endorsed for re-election)

• President of the Common Council – Michael Galime

• Mayor of the City of Utica – Louis P. LaPolla

“Our challenge was to find problem solvers to run for these important positions and I’m really pleased with the outcome,” said Hobika.  “The city is at the cusp of an opportunity like we haven’t seen in decades and we need thoughtful, qualified and forward-thinking representatives who can lead the region’s largest city into this reinvention,” he added.
