The Utica Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign is officially underway.

Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri is this year's honorary chairman.  Palmieri received the ceremonial campaign bell from last year's chairman, Utica Fire Chief Russ Brooks, in a ceremony at Utica City Hall on Monday.

Volunteers will be seen ringing bells at various locations throughout the greater Utica area during the holiday season.

Lt. Michael Harrington of the Salvation Army says this year's goal is $120,000.

Donations from the Red Kettle Campaign fund a variety of local services, including the Salvation Army's Youth Drop-In Center, food pantry, soup kitchen and Christmas toys and food baskets.

If you'd like to be a volunteer bell ringer, call the Utica Salvation Army at 724-8736.
