A Utica woman was arrested after police say she used her 9-year-old son to carry stolen items out of the New Hartford Wal Mart.

New Hartford Police say Wal Mart employees saw Carrie Patterson, 31, of Kemble Street, put women's clothing in a bag and hand it to her son before telling him to carry it out of the store.

Patterson was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and Petit larceny.

Child protective services was also notified and Patterson's son was turned over to a grandparent.

Police also requested that child services conduct an investigation into issues concerning proper guardianship.

Patterson will appear in New Hartford Court on July 10, to answer charges.
