Utica, NY (WIBX) - Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare is making cuts and reducing its workforce in an attempt to save money.

The facility has eliminated 27 positions and laid off ten employees. Officials with the hospital say the cuts are in both clinical and non-clinical positions, with eligible employees offered severance packages.

FSLH President and CEO, Scott Perra, said quote, "Making reductions in our workforce is always a difficult decision and, like many New York State hospitals that have recently downsized their workforce, we are facing the same financial challenges."

The hospital system employs about 2,900 employees and has a $339 million operating budget.
