Utica, NY (WIBX) - Area kids in need are getting an essential item to help them stay warm this winter season, thanks to the local United Way's partnership with Herb Phillipson's. 100 winter boots were donated to partner agencies and schools today, that will go directly to kids in the community. Brenda Episcopo, Executive Director, United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area, says the boots will make a positive impact for families struggling to make ends meet. "It really does make a big impact for those kids, and for the families as well, because it's very challenging when you're struggling to make ends meet. An,d a little extra boost like a pair of boots is just one less thing you have to worry about providing for your children, so I think it's very helpful," Espiscopo said.

The boot donation is in addition to the 100 winter coats the two organizations collaborated to donate this winter season. Anyone in need of a winter coat is encouraged to contact one of the United Way's partner agencies. Some of the agencies receiving the boots are, Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary, Herkimer Area Resource Center, Catholic Charities After School Program Kernan Elementary, and the Town of Webb Elementary School.
