Utica, NY (WIBX) - The local United Way is announcing the allocation of more than $33,000 to 7 non-profit agencies servicing Herkimer and Oneida County residents. The awards, totalling up to $5,000 each, will go toward improving the positive impact of health, education and financial self-sufficency programs.

The agencies selected to receive the grants are; Family Nurturing Center, Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare Foundation, Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, The Country Manor, The Peacemaker Program, Upstate Cerebral Palsy, and Village of Herkimer. Officials say the money will cover "program-specific costs, capacity building or capital expenses." Other items to be purchased include a new stove and refrigerator for a Meals on Wheels program and additional financial support for dental health screenings and outreach.
