A Vernon Center man is dead following a car crash and altercation with police on Route 5 in Oneida.

State Police say 41-year old John Havener, Jr. was obstructing traffic and being disorderly after crashing his car into a snowbank on Monday morning.

They say he was uncooperative with police and fought with responding officers.

Police say Havener was tasered twice by police and at some point, started having breathing problems.

Havener was taken to Oneida Healthcare, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy.

The State Attorney General's Office is also involved in the investigation.
