Verona, NY (WIBX) - State Police are investigating a fatal crash at a closed bridge in Verona that has claimed the life of a 59-year-old woman.

Police say the driver, Ellie Dombrowski, of Verona, was driving a 1957 Austin-Healey convertible and was killed when she failed to stop at a 'bridge-closed' sign on Stoney Creek Road.

The vehicle hit the sign and a metal beam that was blocking the south entrance to the bridge, police said.

The owner of the vehicle, 68-year-old H. Carlton Reames of Ava, who was a passenger, is in critical condition at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, according to police.
