After a 21-year absence from the postseason, the Pittsburgh Pirates have clinched at least a National League Wild Card spot.

And, the game that clinched the postseason birth for the Bucs had an odd and wild finish.

Leading the Cubs 2-1 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Pirates were on the brink of giving up the lead.

A bloop single off the bat of Ryan Sweeney sent Nate Shierholtz from first to third, then Shierholtz was waved around toward the plate as Marlon Bird misplayed the ball in shallow right-center. Andrew McCutchen scooped up the ball, hit the cutoff and the relay thrown nailed Schierholtz to end the game.
