During a Ceremony at Purple Heart Memorial Park, Sgt. Earnest Weeks and Sgt. Michael Evans were surrounded by their families as they received service medals that they have been waiting on for several years.

Sgt. Evans served from 1981 to 1997 and never received his medals until today.

He was presented with:

  • Army Achievement Medal
  • National Defense Service Medal
  • Army Service Ribbon
  • Sharpshooter Badge and Auto Rifle Bar

Sgt. Weeks was injured in Afghanistan in 2011 and was initially denied a purple heart medal, but he says being presented with it today it is a great honor.

Congressman Richard Hanna and his staff contacted the Army and was able to work to get both soldiers their medals just in time for Memorial Day.
