A Delaware County business owner is accused of selling cheeses contaminated with Listeria.

A Federal Court has permanently banned Vulto Creamery of Walton and its owner, Johannes Vulto from manufacturing and distributing altered food after at least eight people in several states were sickened and two of them died in 2017.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration filed the complaint March 19th in Federal Court alleging the creamery and its owner violated the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act by distributing ready-to-eat cheese that had been made, packaged or held in unsanitary conditions, that had not undergone microbial testing and that had been made with raw or unpasteurized milk.

Under the decree, Vulto cannot manufacture or distribute food unless they comply with specific remedial measures like hiring a qualified independent expert to develop a sanitation control program.
