An Oneida County man has been sentenced on mail theft charges in federal court in Syracuse.

34-year old Michael Oliver of Waterville had pleaded guilty to two counts of obstructing the United States mail.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says Oliver stole greeting cards, cash and gift cards from at least 160 pieces of mail between May and September of 2014. Oliver was working as a driver for the Postal Service in Oneida and Chenango Counties.

The judge also imposed a $250 fine and ordered Oliver to pay $1,155 in restitution to the known victims.
