BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities have issued a temporary no-wake restriction for boaters plying two popular bodies of water in central New York.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office is urging boaters to use extreme caution due to elevated and hazardous levels on the Erie Canal and Seneca River between Baldwinsville and Cross Lake.

The high waters have left property, docks and sea walls more exposed to damage. Requiring boats to slow down also increases safety because it makes it easier to spot submerged debris, which can damage craft traveling at higher speeds.

Violators will be subject to a $100 fine.
