Utica, NY (WIBX) - More than one-third of all larcenies from motor vehicles occured in West Utica last year according to the Utica Police Department.

Auto theft was only one of many topics addressed as more than three dozen residents, community activists, and leaders turned out for a citizens' group meeting last night.

While everyone agreed that the meeting was productive, public safety was a key issue. Utica Deputy Police Chief John Toomey acknowledged some tension between residents and police and was quick to put guests at ease.

Organiser and community activist Tim Trent presided over the meeting and stressed the importance of other groups continuing to join forces.

Those in attendance indicated that they eagerly await the outcome of this evening's budget announcements.
