ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) Authorities say a 56-year-old man is dead after he was hit and killed by a motorcycle while crossing a road in western New York.

Police say the man wasn't in a crosswalk when he was hit just before noon on Monday in Rochester. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities didn't immediately identify the victim.

Lt. Frank DiPrimo tells the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle that the victim was crossing the road in the middle of the block illegally into traffic and the motorcyclist didn't expect him to step into the roadway.

Investigators say the 26-year-old motorcyclist has been taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with injuries that police say aren't life-threatening.
