Western NY Man’s Body Found In Adirondack High Peaks River

KEENE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a western New York man's body has been recovered from an Adirondack river after he disappeared while hiking in the High Peaks region.

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/2vsQMVh ) 50-old Ralph "Skip" Baker, of the Rochester suburb of Webster, was hiking Sunday in the town of Keene. Authorities were alerted when he failed to return Sunday night to his truck, which was parked at the Adirondack Mountain Reserve property.

Search crews found his body Tuesday morning in the east branch of the AuSable River at the base of the Lower and Upper Wolfjaw mountain, 110 miles (177 kilometers) north of Albany.

The cause of death hasn't been determined. Authorities say he may have drowned or died in a fall. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

State police are investigating.
