A Westmoreland man is facing charges following a hunting accident in the Town of Westmoreland.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office says 45-year old Bernard Snell, Junior and 43-year old Kevin Barber were tracking a deer they had just shot

Deputies say Snell thought he saw the deer in some heavy brush about 20 to 25 yards away and fired a shot, hitting Barber.

They say Snell immediately came to Barber's aid and called 911 after Barber had yelled that he had been hit. Barber was taken to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the forearm.

Snell was charged with assault.

The investigation is ongoing.
