New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - According to police, two area women were arrested Friday afternoon after they were observed shoplifting while caring two young children. New Hartford Police were called to the Wal-Mart Supercenter at Consumer Square at about 5:15 pm Friday for two shoplifters.

After police arrived and spoke with store employees, they learned that the two women shoplifters stole a total of 18 articles of merchandise valued at $130.00. Store employees also told police that the shoplifting occurred while the two were caring for a 5-year old girl and a 1-year old girl.

Police arrested  27-year old Emily Dahlin and 28-year old Amelinda Johnson both of Whitesboro.

They two women were charged with one count each of petit larceny for the theft of the store merchandise and one count each of endangering the welfare of a child for subjecting the children to criminal behavior that would likely injure their moral welfare.

All charges are misdemeanors.
