Whitestown Post Holds Off Braman To Advance [GALLERY]
Rob Kelly tossed six solid innings in relief to earn a win, and added two hits and an RBI as Whitestown Post bounced back from a loss on Thursday night by eliminating Braman Post 12-10 on Friday afternoon in the New York State American Legion Baseball Tournament.
Kellyy was abruptly brought in to pitch after starter Mike Bunal was ejected, apparently for a comment he made after a bang-bang play at first base.
Cody Wiktorski hit a slow bouncing ball past the mound, forcing Whitestown second baseman Adam Pexton to charge in and make a tough off balance throw. Wiktorski was called safe and Bunal seemed to yell something into his own glove as he walked back to the mound. The first base umpire instantly ejected Bunal, ending his afternoon after three-plus innings. He allowed nine hits and seven runs, but just three were earned.
As a team Whitestown made six errors on the day, leading to a total of five unearned runs. The defense was without starting shortstop Mike Sullivan who got banged up on Thursday.
First baseman Matt Englar cracked three hits on the day while driving in two, Connor Passalacqua and Bunal each had two hits and two RBI, and Dylan Gorski scored twice to go along with two hits and a run driven in.
Braman was led offensively by Jeff Young's four hits and two RBI, while Dylan Burrows drove in three runs with a pair of hits.
