NEW YORK (AP) — A New York nonprofit has announced it will provide grants to reward and encourage American nonprofit magazines.

The Whiting Foundation, which also annually provides 10 emerging writers with prizes of $50,000 each, says the grants for digital and print publications will total up to $120,000. The New York Times reports (http://nyti.ms/2xPE6cf ) the awards will be split into three categories: up to $60,000 for medium-sized print magazines, $30,000 for smaller magazines and a digital prize of $30,000 for primarily online magazines.

In addition to the initial awards, the foundation will give matching grants based on other fundraising done in a two-year period by the recipients.

All applicants must be nonprofit, and must have published at least annually for a minimum of three years.
