Winooski Teen Will Be Tried As An Adult On Murder Charges

WINOOSKI, Vt. (AP) — A Winooski teen will be tried as an adult on a charge of second-degree murder after a 54-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a street fight last month.

Judge Dennis Pearson ordered the 17-year-old boy held without bail on Thursday in Vermont Superior Court.

The teen will be arraigned on the murder charge Friday. He previously pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault charges stemming from the Aug. 27 fight outside Chick's Market.

Police say the fight followed an altercation between a group of people from the same neighborhood. Witnesses told officers the teen "came out of nowhere" and landed the initial punch on the victim, David Hojohn.

Hojohn was knocked unconscious by the blow. He died at a hospital Wednesday night.

The teen faces a possible life sentence.
