A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of Central New York later today.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is issuing the advisory for the following areas:

  • Catskills
  • Southern Tug Hill Region
  • Susquehanna Region
  • Western Mohawk Valley

The advisory remains in effect from 7:00pm Tuesday, February 23 through 10:00am Wednesday, February 24, 2016.

During this period, the NWS says, residents can expect "a light wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain."  Accumulations of up to an inch of snow may be expected.  Low visibility in affected areas is anticipated.

The biggest cause for concern will come from a coating a ice that may also build up during the time period covered by the advisory, making travel hazardous.

Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist Rachael Witter tells WIBX that winter-wise there is "a lot going on over the next few days" but that warmer temperatures are coming, with 50-degrees possible by Thursday.

Residents are advised to use extra caution when on the roads during the winter weather advisory.
