Woman Sentenced for Sexually Exploiting a Baby

A Binghamton woman is spending 16 and-a-half years in federal prison for sexually abusing a six month old baby and recording it on her cell phone.

34-Year-old Latasha Mitchell was sentenced January 22, 2016 for sexual exploitation of a child, production and possession of child pornography.

Prosecutors say the baby boy was Mitchell’s nephew.

She had been arrested in February and pleaded guilty in September.

Mitchell could have been sentenced to 30 years in prison but the defense asked for leniency, taking into consideration the woman’s mental illness and low intellect.
