New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - Those running for seats on a school board in Oneida, Madison and Herkimer Counties are encouraged to attend a free workshop titled, "So You Want To Be A School Board Member" this coming Saturday in New Hartford. Coordinator for Board Training for the Oneida, Madison, Herkimer School Board Institute, Jim Van Wormer says it's an opportunity for candidates to network and ask questions in preparation for the May 15th elections.

He said, "Qualifications would be anyone who has picked up a board petition and they have submitted that to their boards and they would be on the ballot to run for a position and, or anyone who may think that they may want to do a write-in campaign to become a school board member."

The training is being held in the Oneida Room at the BOCES on Middle Settlement Road. Attendees can register at 8:15 a.m. The training will run from 8:45 a.m. to Noon.  Those interested in attending the workshop are asked to call (315)941-6229. There are 36 school boards in the Mohawk Valley.
